Getting Into The Home Stretch
Friday Devlog!
I finally got back to working on finishing up the initial release over the past few days, and I feel like I’m getting close. Mostly what I did was finishing most of the rough texturing I need for now.
Something important I did was update the NW.js file. TLDR what it is is a program to help Javascript apps run, and the main reason why a lot of RPG Maker games run really slow despite there being no reason for that. The version that came with RPG maker is at least 5 years old, and the version I updated it to is only from last year. 72.0 is the last version of NW.js that Windows 7/8/8.1 will reliably run on, so I updated it to that. Before I release it I’ll update the NW.js file for the Mac / Linux versions so that they run good.
I did a whole lot of texturing though. Essentially what I did for most of the textures is instead of making any sort of texture, I just dragged all the polygons into a square with whatever color was fitting. It works for now and makes the game look better. I didn’t do them all as in depth as I wanted because it’d take another week or so and I’m starting to feel a little burnt out with this project for now. Hopefully next update I’ll get either all or most of them done.
I did texture the vending machine as well as a placeholder for the hallway’s upper window, and I finished the tiles I needed for the hallway save for the ceiling.
The next few days are gonna start with me copying everything I need to a new project. This is for 2 reasons: It makes the finished project smaller and more organized, and reduces the chance of some random thing messing up the game and making it lag a bunch.
After that my tasks for myself are:
- Finish the last few pixelart objects
- Finish the walking sprites I need
- Linking all the rooms up and fixing the lighting for them
- Doing a rough version of the opening cinematic
- Doing a rough version of the battle animations
- Getting all the music / SFX I need (SFX won’t be 100% of what I need, but that’ll come later)
- Tightening / Expanding the current story
Also other things like playtesting and random things. I feel like I’m getting close to the finish line. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get it out by Halloween, but I’ll probably know on Tuesday. At the very latest it’ll be out sometime the first week of November.
There’s not really gonna be any horny stuff in this first demo unfortunately, because with the nature of a game like this the setup period takes the longest. As I get more experienced with asset creation, and hopefully become less stressed financially, I’ll be able to get updates out a lot faster. I’ve got lots of ideas for what I wanna do with this game, and I’m excited to get this first version out. Hopefully on Tuesday I’ll have some more good news. See you all then.
