The Final Stretch

Tuesday Devlog!

I got the project completely copied over save for the battle animations, and now I’m working on fleshing out the story. I also spent a good amount of time figuring out a good process for textboxes. I was extremely surprised that RPG Maker MV didn’t have a function to justify text. After lots of looking, I finally found a plugin. It’s actually wild that being able to center text isn’t built in. Finding the plugin has save future me hundreds of hours, so that’s a massive weight off my shoulders.

My process is essentially flipping a few switches for each textbox because I’m doing it in an unconventional way. One switch shows if it’s a speech bubble or thought bubble, one shows the character’s name and face, then the last one is for the alignment of the text for 1 2 or 3 lines of text. Everything looks super good put together ngl.

Also, because I’m going to assume at least some people who play this will never have played an RPG Maker game, I’m gonna have a controls popup in the game, as well as a document in the game’s files. It might be fun to make a PDF with a bunch of info, sort of like how games had manuals. Also the game being a 3D game probably justifies the need to show camera controls as well.

This is a pretty short devlog, but I’m almost done. I’m gonna finish up the story, then finish the last things I need to make. The battle pictures are gonna be rough animations cause fine tuning them will take a long time, but they’ll look nicer eventually.

Pretty much I’m doing the “what do I need now” thing I do at the end of game updates. Next update will have a lot of stuff cleaned up.

I don’t know if I’ll get the game out by Halloween, but there’s a very good chance that if it’s not out by Halloween that I’ll get it out within the next week.
